The Bear Pit was built in 1856. Bears, however, had been kept in the city of Bern since the middle of the 15th century. In 1996, the Bear Pit was renovated and changed to its actual form.

The Federal Palace is the seat of the Swiss government. During parliamentary sessions, all the 253 national politicians who make up the Swiss parliament gather here.

Gurten is the name of the local lookout mountain of Bern where everyone goes for relaxation and fun. Is easily accessible on foot or with the Gurten railway. A special event is the Gurten Festival, a music festival during the summer.

The Museum of Art enjoys international reputation, especially for its collection of works of Paul Klee. It houses more than 3'000 paintings and sculptures as well as 40'000 works of art on paper.

Formerly the suburb of the working classes down by the river where they developed their own language called "Matteänglisch". Even nowadays a neighbourhood of Bern where you find many alternative live styles.

The theatre of the city of Bern can be reached by taking tram no. 9 or bus no. 10 (tram and bus stop «Zytglogge»). The nearest parkings are the «Rathaus»-Parking, the «Metro»-Parking or the «Casino»-Parking.

On the 20th of June 2005 the Zentrum Paul Klee has opened its doors to visitors interested in art and to art lovers from all over the world. At the heart of this new cultural institution is the artist Paul Klee (1879–1940), his life and his work.

In the city's first ring of fortifications in 1220, the Zytglogge Tower was a watchtower and a gate to the city of Bern. Every hour, historic figures start moving until the mechanic bell-ringer strikes the hour.
